Indigenous Engagement

MBS FM acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We are committed to honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique cultural and spiritual connection to the land, water and sea.

MBS FM is dedicated to building meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities across the regions we operate. Our Indigenous Engagement Strategy is built on a foundation of respect and collaboration, with a focus on supporting cultural preservation, economic development, and social inclusion.

By partnering with Indigenous peoples and organisations, we strive to create opportunities for employment, training, and business growth, empowering local communities and fostering sustainable development. Our goal is to make a lasting impact and contribute to a more inclusive future.

Our commitment includes:

  • Sourcing from Indigenous-owned businesses

  • Recruiting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

  • Providing all staff with Indigenous cultural training

  • Engaging Indigenous consultants to guide training and business practices

  • Consulting with the region's Traditional Owners

  • Collaborating with Indigenous groups and supporters to facilitate work placements for Indigenous individuals in recovery

  • Actively participating in Indigenous events, such as NAIDOC Week

Parlkarna was established in 2023 as an Indigenous support initiative created by the senior management team of MBS FM. Our motivation stemmed from a genuine commitment to support Indigenous Australians by establishing a business owned by Aboriginal peoples to create careers in the construction and building maintenance industries.

Parlkarna shares the same vision as MBS FM: to form long-term partnerships with our clients through a complete building and facilities management solution. Two proud Indigenous men now head up this exciting business, Glen Andrews (Dieri Man) and Leon Epong (Mandubarra Man).

This artwork, Yulplu, is about people gathering and healing, the sacredness of ceremony and the importance of people sitting together and learning from one another. This is the spirit of reconciliation. Artist: Mr. Jeremy Donovan
